How To Be Successful

Updated: Jan 15, 2020

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, definition of zenith is “the point of the celestial sphere that is directly opposite the nadir and vertically above the observer or the highest point reached in the heavens by a celestial body.” The word zenith came from Arabic. It is used in English to showcase achievement. When you reach the zenith, you're at the top, the pinnacle, the summit, the peak. That implies that you have certain talents and strengths that helped you get to the top. It also implies that most of the times,

The focus almost always is on the success; that coveted CEO position or a prestigious award or the stardum. Very rarely we talk about what does it really take for a person to achieve that position. It could be hours doing small jobs, not having money to eat two meals a day, not sleeping well or losing everything in the process and being on the verge of giving up. It involves accepting challenges, taking action and driving change. Sometimes the difference between what we call success and failure is one small change and perseverance.

When I was looking for a name for my counseling practice; I wanted a name that will signify our strengths, our journey to the top while acknowledging our struggles. I believe that we all have talents, strengths that make us unique. Sometimes they are hidden, like a diamond in the rough. Sometimes they are out there but we do not utilize them to their fullest potential. So the journey involves the task of finding out our talents/strengths, believing in ourselves and using them. Think about a time in your life, when you felt successful, proud, happy about yourself. That could be a small thing like getting up on time everyday to go to office or cleaning that closet (finally!). We don't celebrate our small successes enough so they can provide fuel for the next step.

We all get to the top, reach the zenith, at some point (or multiple points) in our life. We just have to remember how we got there and apply it again when we need it. Zenith is within reach; for all of us!
